Craig Rothleitner, a qualified motor mechanic and heavy rigger by trade, also worked in the dredging industry for 10 years. There Rothleitner learnt about how the urban water cycle of discharge into harbors, lakes, and estuaries, large scale reclamation and a lot about water. First Rothleitner had to work out why is the environmental water sector so broken and why is it failing so completely? The first task was to understand the various waste loads and what impact they have in the stormwater infrastructure.
Next, after researching current ‘traditional and screen’ filtration tech, it was quickly clear these were not suitable for environmental water filtration. Rothleitner then invented, developed, proved in field and scientifically to the highest level the only ‘high flow to fine particle capture filtration technology, proven to process just over 3000 litres per minute, per square metre, capturing particulates to 63 microns. To gain the knowledge Rothleitner has opened over 16,000 drains around the world to firstly understand the scale of the infrastructure, scale of the contamination, understand pit educting / street sweeping and then to working out why all urban waterways are supporting Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms whilst all of our natural and manmade end of line treatment systems such as Gross Pollutant Traps (GPT’s), Continuous Deflection Separation (CDS) devices, wetlands, Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), living streams, swales and estuaries are failing.
A solution now exists, not a silver bullet, but a means to capture most of the waste from environmental water. This ultimately means a water source that we have never engaged with that has become a global contamination source we can now tap into using the existing stormwater infrastructure whilst opening this water up to numerous, existing, technological reuse advancements.
