Scott Bessler serves as Superintendent of the Compliance Services Division at the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati. He received a BS and MS in Biological Sciences from Northern Kentucky University and the University of Alabama, respectively. His graduate work focused on physiology and ecotoxicology and other research has focused on semi-arid hydrology, emerging contaminants and disease ecology. In his current role, he provides high level direction of laboratory and pretreatment operations and Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment guidance for the utility.

He is also the strategic research manager for MSD, identifying areas of collaborative overlap with USEPA and academic research partners.

Prior to joining MSD, Scott worked for the U.S. EPA, enforcing the Toxic Substances Control Act and providing innovative remediation solutions for National Priority List Superfund sites. He has also worked as an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for Kinder Morgan and as Laboratory Manager at the University of South Florida. His current strategic research interests are focused on wastewater monitoring, nutrient removal/harvesting, energy efficiency and emerging contaminants that challenge wastewater utilities.
