CLEVELAND, Ohio — After several days of hot and humid weather, Lake Erie is beginning to feel increasingly inviting for swimmers along the Northeast Ohio shoreline.

Water temperatures were generally in the upper 60s to low 70s Thursday, warm enough for a comfortable dip for many swimmers, although the lake may still feel cool during longer periods in the water.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District reported water temperatures of 71.8 degrees at Edgewater Beach and 73.6 degrees at Villa Angela/Euclid Beach.

Buoys operated through the Cleveland Water Alliance showed slightly cooler readings farther out in open water. The temperature near Edgewater was 70.3 degrees, while readings near Rocky River and Sheffield were 69.5 and 69 degrees, respectively.
